Transparency and labelling

When you must tell people AI is involved, and how to do it simply.

Transcript

Transparency builds trust and is increasingly required. Under the Act, people must be told when they are interacting with an AI system such as a chatbot, and AI-generated or manipulated images, audio and video that look real must be disclosed. Text published to inform the public on matters of public interest also needs disclosure, unless a person has reviewed it and takes editorial responsibility.

In practice, keep it simple: a short line in the chatbot window, a label on synthetic images, a note in your content policy about how AI-assisted material is reviewed. Clients increasingly ask about this directly, so a clear, honest answer is also good business.

Key takeaways

  1. People must know when they are talking to AI.
  2. Realistic synthetic media must be labelled.
  3. Simple, honest disclosure also builds client trust.
